NFTUK: From Paris with Love pt II
Community happenings, exhibitions, artist spotlight and more IRL news
The past few weeks have been absolutely thrilling for NFTUK! As we mentioned in our last update, we had a blast exhibiting at NFT Paris you can read all about it here. And guess what? We're heading back this month! We're thrilled to announce that we've been selected as the UK community partner for Paris Blockchain Week, and we're bringing along a talented group of artists to showcase their amazing work at le Carrousel du Louvre.
In fact, earlier this month on March 1st, we opened up an exciting Open Call for artists. We were blown away by the response and received over 700 submissions! We spent a whole week curating all of the amazing entries, and now we're finally ready to announce the winners. By the time you read this, we'll have already shared the exciting news on our Twitter page.
So, without further ado, we are thrilled to introduce the amazing winners of our Open Call.
Artist Spotlight: sixstreetunder
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background as an artist and how you would describe your artistic style.
My roots are in Illustration, that’s what I studied at university but I also spent a lot of time model making and always thought id end up doing stop motion. Photography came along as a creative outlet alongside a day job. It was the most immediate option and suited working in a city and only having a lunch break to shoot. My style is on the most abstract, composition focused side of street photography. Inspired by the layered texture obsessed illustration I used to do and the classic painters and artists I admired then. There is a lot of Edward Hopper in my more successful compositions.
What are any upcoming projects or exhibitions you have planned?
There is one that is actually on right now. The Margate School has one on as we speak as a fundraiser, they lost their council funding and as a way to get some attention and raise some funds there is an exhibition and print sale going on so if people want to contribute, 50% of any print sales right now will be going to the school. I also have a book coming up at the end of the year with a publisher. It will be quite instructional and combine my workshop teachings and things I’ve talked about in my skillshare classes alongside a lot of my work.
Are there any specific projects or pieces that hold a special significance to you?
I would say all of my photographs from New York. I had never been until I turned 30 and asked for nothing but flights. It led to 4 trips out there over 2 years and then a self published book of the work. Its something I want to reprint in a larger hard back format at some point, including even more images.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists?
Experimenting regularly even when you are 99% sure the idea is going to deliver bad images. The process will lead to something else.
