Sares’ journey as a digital mixed media artist is a fascinating exploration of creativity and technology, a delicate balance between chaos and order. His work transcends traditional boundaries, merging generative art, AI, and 3D to capture the essence of time’s chaotic beauty. But his story didn’t start with algorithms and code—it began with a spray can and a passion for capturing human expression.
"Even as a child, I always had a pencil and art books nearby, but it was at the age of 15, with a spray can in hand, that I discovered something powerful," Sares recalls. His early fascination with street art, particularly with portraits and identity, led him to study photography and work in fashion and art direction. Yet, despite these accomplishments, he felt the urge to explore further, to push beyond the conventional confines of his practice.
“Ruptis captures the essence of transformation through an explosion that shifts perspective, blending fractured aesthetics with forms that disintegrate and reconstitute. It conveys a powerful sense of destruction and renewal, embodying constant change.”
The onset of the pandemic brought an unexpected opportunity for introspection and experimentation. With the world in lockdown, Sares dove into the world of 3D art, revisiting a medium he had dabbled in before. This exploration led to a pivotal question that would redefine his artistic path: “What if I create generative art?”
This question sparked a journey into the heart of the human-machine connection, where AI and generative systems became creative collaborators, not just tools. Sares began to see technology as a partner in expression, a way to explore the intersections between human emotion and the structured logic of machines. His work, which he describes as “dynamic visual experiences that reflect the emotional and conceptual aspects of our relationship with technology,” embodies this duality.
We had the pleasure of showcasing Sares’ work during NFTUK’s Digital Luminaries show, in an immersive space at the Art'Otel in London. His pieces captivated the audience, drawing them into a world where the digital and the physical collided, and where art became a dialogue between human and machine.
Creating with Chaos: The Process Behind the Art
Sares’ creative process is as fluid and multifaceted as his work. He draws inspiration from the concept of duality—the tension between order and chaos, human emotion and machine logic. His use of bold colors and intricate geometric designs represents this ongoing search for balance. “I draw inspiration from how time itself is a force that transforms chaos into order,” he explains, a theme that resonates throughout his work.
“Silentia emerges as a result of an exploration of silent anger. It captures the serenity of tension and the mystery of silence, evoking an introspective atmosphere, where emptiness invites contemplation to encourage action.”
Each piece begins with an idea, often triggered by a personal emotion or experience. From there, Sares engages in a collaborative dance with the machine, using AI to generate initial outputs, then allowing randomness and intuition to guide the evolution of the piece. This process, which he describes as “keeping the expression of the present alive in each work,” ensures that every creation is a unique reflection of both the artist’s vision and the technology’s contribution.
Symbolism plays a crucial role in his work, with recurring motifs like the square, representing order and rationality, contrasting with the more chaotic elements. These symbols are inspired by alchemy and its geometries, a blend of mystical and mathematical elements that seek transformation and balance. “Each symbol and pattern has a specific meaning that contributes to the emotional narrative of the piece,” Sares notes, inviting viewers to explore and reinterpret their own understanding of reality and illusion.
“Proprium embodies the essence of individuality and self-love, exploring the intersection of personal identity and digital transformation. Its fluid shapes and intricate details reflect the journey of self-discovery, where the human spirit connects with technology to create a unique narrative of existence.”
Milestones and the Road Ahead
Sares’ career has been marked by a series of significant milestones, each contributing to the artist he is today. His work has traveled the world, from Argentina to London, New York, and Beijing. But it was his participation in the Claire Silver Art Contest #7 that marked a turning point. His piece, "Symbiosis," an interactive system that responds to the viewer’s movements, was selected as a finalist and exhibited at the Ai4 Conference in Las Vegas. This experience opened up new possibilities for Sares, blending human interaction with digital expression in a way that redefined his approach to art.
Looking ahead, Sares is eager to push his work even further. He dreams of blending the digital and the physical, creating installations that invite active participation and blur the lines between the virtual and tangible worlds. He is also exploring experimental animation techniques with AI and the interaction between different machine models, always driven by a curiosity for new forms of expression.
His aspirations extend to the global stage, with dreams of exhibiting in cities like Hong Kong, Singapore, and his hometown of Buenos Aires. He also hopes to collaborate with artists and brands that inspire him, from Refik Anadol to Maison Margiela, creating art that transcends boundaries and challenges our perceptions of technology and identity.
Advice for Aspiring Creators
For those just starting out in the digital art world, Sares offers simple yet profound advice: “Trust, Patience, and Discipline.” He speaks from experience, having navigated the highs and lows of a creative career. Trust the process, he advises, and enjoy the journey. Be patient with yourself and your growth, as things take time to develop. And above all, be disciplined in your practice, because it is through consistency and perseverance that true progress is made.
As Sares continues to explore new realms of creativity, one thing remains clear: his art is a testament to the beauty of imperfection and the power of transformation. In a world that is constantly changing, his work invites us to pause, reflect, and embrace the chaos. For those willing to join him on this journey, the possibilities are endless.
